Although the 2-DG molecules have been used extensively for cancer treatment it still lacks approval from the regulators as an anti-cancer drug for the reason that the 2-DG's theory of glycolysis inhibition destroying malignant cells is still unproven on humans.

It is well known by now, the the DRDO is a completely useless body packed with the most stupid and otherwise unemployable scientists ever assembled in one organsiation. No private company worth the name would hire these DRDO morons, Patanjali being the notable exception so as to tomtom that Baba-no-Swami-no-Rishi Ramdev (or his homosexual buddy) invented 2-DG.

Dr. Rajan does a great disservice to our members by not linking to the Hindu article he referred to which exposed 2-DG is a FAKE DRUG,

There is also no doubt that 2-DG is a FAKE DRUG for COVID treatment, and it's as fake as that Nepali billionaire "inter"-fail rogue "Acharya" Balkrishna's medical / research qualifications are.

From these kinds of dubious approvals, it is also undeniable that present DCGI  Dr. V.G Somani (probably a Gujarati like the rest of Modi's key appointees) is a corrupt and pliable rubber stamp Drugs regulator, handpicked by Modi to carry out the final scams of a Govt on its way out.

Considering the fact that there is no proven and 100% effective drug against COVID, research community is testing the efficacy of various antiviral n other drugs to treat COVID (repurposed drug). Kudos to DRDO and let us hope that the drug is successful.

I too searched literature on 2-DG and found this pre-print (meaning not peer-reviewed) publication from Patanjali on Researchgate website. It is a theoretical study based on computer simulation. One of the co-authors is an ex-Director of a DRDO-Institute. 

2-DG is a long-known molecule, having been developed as an anti-cancer metabolite. The present group has boldly tested it in Covid-19 patients and have shown favourable results and have obtained DCGI-approval. To that extent the work done is novel. It remains to be seen how it works out in field use. The side effects 

Incidentally, DRDO-INMAS has published papers using this molecule more than a decade ago as an adjuvant in radiation therapy for a few cancers. 

However, some experts have expressed reservations against 2-DG for treating covid-19 patients as expressed in The Hindu. 

There is a Swedish company that announced on March 11th, a nasal spray containing 2-DG.

I started to dig about this new drug 2-DG, which was launched last week
